More Bottom Paint Blues (with video)

A couple of weeks ago, in a blog post entitled “Boat Bottom Blues,” I wrote about the challenges of dealing with an old boat that has accumulated years of bottom paint, and I pointed readers to various reports we’ve weve done on removing old paint and restoring hull bottoms. As part of an upcoming report that revisits this topic in more detail, Practical Sailor publisher Tim Cole has put together two-part video illustrating the steps of removing paint and raising the waterline on his Bristol 35.5, First Light.

In the first part, marine professional Ted Anderson describes the paint removal project using sandblasting and sanding.

In Part Two, he describes in more detail the steps taken to raise the waterline and prepare for painting. Look for the full article in the October 2015 issue of Practical Sailor. If you have any questions about the project, you can send them to me at [email protected]
