If you don’t have any plans for the last weekend of March and beginning of April, you can still register and attend the Annapolis Safety at Sea seminar, presented by the Marine Trades Association of Maryland and the U.S. Naval Academy. The seminar runs March 31-April 1 and will be held in Alumni Hall at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
It will feature presentations and activities with technical experts, premier ocean racers, adventure sailors, and sail-training professionals. Focusing on offshore and inshore safety, the event will offer programs for cruisers and racing sailors, along with on-the-water demonstrations, Coast Guard helicopter rescues, and a signal flare demo. There also will be a seminar on weather forecasting.
Originally designed for Naval Academy midshipmen, the comprehensive training is endorsed by US Sailing, and participants have the opportunity to earn an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) or US Sailing certificate through hands-on training, or to take the advanced cruising track, which includes a more in-depth look at cruising safely and interactive or practical training sessions.
One of the seminar moderators is Practical Sailor Technical Editor Ralph Naranjo, and the line-up of presenters includes PS contributor Steve D’Antonio.
