Seriously, I don’t know why there is no editing for misspelled words that mean something else entirely! Been reading and enjoying the publication for years but I have to say the lack of editing makes me bonkers! Jib LEACH? A leach is an animal that sticks to you and sucks your blood. Let’s get this right, folks! Same with the frequent “dingy” for “dinghy”. No one wants a dingy dinghy! So let’s up the game here, as one would expect for a professional publication, and get someone to review these words for meaning. Trusting a spell check doesn’t avoid getting the whole word wrong.
A sail’s trailing edge you’ll find spelled either way (though I learned it as “leech”). A leech sucks blood. Leech is always a noun, leach, a verb except, when you’re telling someone to pull that cord and they want to know how it’s spelled and you go all didactic on them. Oh, wait, there’s “leach field”. Damn.
I heartily concur with Sailorgirl. That said, I’d be happy to volunteer as “that someone”. I am recently retired from an engineering profession that involved extensive technical writing, reading and editing (they called me “Mister Spellcheck”), and have time, attention and inclination to take on the task. I also understand deadlines and can probably achieve a 24-hour turn-around. I’d be happy to help.

I’m subscribed. I’m logged in. I only get 1 partial page.
Your log in is a pain in the butt. Enough so I probably won’t re up
I have to admit that the spelling and grammar mistakes are a bit off putting but they don’t really detract that much from the substance of the articles. However, what’s fair for the goose is fair for the gander with regards to subscriber’s poor writing skills when making comments. More than once I’ve been frustrated when trying to decipher what a commenter was trying to say. Every writer – whether it’s a PS contributor or commenter – should either reread their submissions before submitting or have someone else read it for correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. That is unless you just don’t care.
After all these years apparently have lost my subscription. still a sailor at 90. good luck and happy sailing to you all.
I think the log in has gotten much better.
What I find a pain are all the “landmines” on the site that spring out an cover the page, constantly wanting my email address and to sign up for the site. Once I subscribe and pay my money, it would be nice to be free of “Constant Advertising” BS.
Hear, hear to the comments, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.
This note not aimed at above content but could not find where to direct a general question to the staff about learning the original manufacturer of the mast on my 1967 Morgan 24/5….the mast itself is flat sided and has a full radius on each end it measures 3.25″ x 5″. Over the years I have upgraded the boat structurally, visually, cushions, electrical, plumbing, centerboard gear, etc ad infinitum. This fall decided I’d been living on borrowed time, so am lowering the mast and doing a full refit on shrouds, mast hinge (cast aluminum and unsurprisingly broken) tangs, spreader bases, etc. In all my online travels I’ve never found the supplier of the mast extrusion….Has anyone on or off staff have any ideas???? TIA
