Tartan 33: A Look from Stem to Stern

0

The Tartan 33’s deck features are consistent with the boat’s aims to be a multipurpose boat that will appeal to Wednesday night racers and family cruisers alike—and, with some upgrades, be capable of serious offshore adventures.

  1. Visibility from the helm is excellent and cut outs in the dodger breakwater offer a convenient slot for halyards and reefing lines to be led aft, making it easier to change the sail plan without going forward.
  2. Cast bronze corner protectors and a rugged 10-inch stern cleat are typical of the hardware throughout.
  3. Handholds extend forward of the mast. The non-skid is surprisingly grippy even on older boats.
  4. Anchor rollers and windlasses were not standard, but many owners have added them. The condition of the deck surrounding any aftermarket additions should be closely inspected.
  5. The Lewmar 40 winches were standard. Many owners have upgraded to self-tailing winches.
