For more than 35 years, Practical Sailor has been taking the guesswork out of boat and gear buying with bold, independent boat tests, and product-test reports for serious sailors and boaters. Our testing program is supported by loyal subscribers who believe in our mission and want to make the best choices when buying a boat, or equipping and maintaining the one they have.
Practical Sailor is published by Belvoir Media Group, which also publishes and produces titles and websites such as University Health News, Whole Dog Journal, Gluten Free & More, Dogster, and Catster.
Today, paid subscribers to Practical Sailor have access to a vast online archive of test reports, including hundreds of unbiased evaluations of sailboats and sailing equipment. We invite you to sign up for our free e-letter, Waypoints or subscribe to Practical Sailor today.

Tim Labute is the Editor in Chief of Practical Sailor. He got his start sailing on the Great Lakes racing keel boats, moving up to longer trips through the Erie Canal, East coast, and Caribbean. Tim’s adventures spawned a YouTube channel called Lady K Sailing, helping other people get started in the sport. Tim currently sails an S&S Hughes 35, a Laser, and teaches people to sail in his CL-14.
Roxanne is Practical Sailor’s Managing Editor. She has sailed 11,000+ blue water miles since 2018 on six boats ranging in personality from dirtbag cozy to fancy-cheese-in-the-fridge. Her favorite voyages are the alchemical ones that transform a group of strangers into friends who embrace the trials and joys of sea together. She races with a Young 88 team in Aotearoa, New Zealand to keep her hands familiar with the lines and salt on her shoes. Winning is the occasional perk.
